Our elevation here at Yorkton is 1635 feet. But AWOS reported a Density Altitude close to 3700 feet many times during the week of July 9th. Be mindful of the heat, humidity, dewpoint, pressure and its effect on your plane. And it's not just about managing your load to make sure you get off the runway. Robert Garrett, Thrush's Director of Training, further points out the danger of micro climates and the potential density altitude changes over short distances ie. pulling out of a field over a dense wooded area. The Densitiy Altitude change is dramatic!
Check our Training Resource page for a dewpoint calculator and a density altitude calculator. Play with the numbers, check your aircraft's POH to see the performance differences.
